The Top 5 Best Views in New York

by Benjamin Lewis

Every visitor to New York looks forward to rising above the city for some spectacular views of the skyline.  But, how should one go about doing it?  Do you ascend to one of the city’s major observatories?  Or, can you find a more casual setting to enjoy the cityscape?  Is it possible that the best views in New York are found outside of the state entirely?  We got the answers to these questions in our following list of the Top 5 Best Views in New York!

Empire State Building

The climb to the Empire State Building’s 86th floor observatory represents a pop-culture pilgrimage for millions upon millions of people.  For some, it presents an opportunity to reenact their favorite scene from a Hollywood movie.  For others, an Empire State Building trip provides an immersive experience focusing on American architectural history.  But, no matter the reason why you pick up an Empire State Building ticket, one thing is for certain:  The view of the New York skyline will leave you dumbstruck.

Top of the Rock

But, there’s something missing from the view atop the Empire State Building:  The historic edifice itself!  Thus, the Top of the Rock could easily vie for the title of best observation deck in New York.  It provides something special that the others simply can’t, which is a view of the city that includes the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center.  Additionally, a Top of the Rock ticket grants access to two exquisite Swarovski art installations and as many observation decks as its two major competitors combined.

One World Observatory

With One World Observatory tickets, you can take a bite out of the Big Apple from a completely new angle!  You’ll start off inside the Sky Pod, where you’ll ride to the 100th floor in less than a minute, all while enjoying a video covering the history of New York.  Then, boogie to the heartbeat of the city inside the See Forever Theater.  Finally, after reflecting on the New York cityscape, you can peer straight down through the Sky Portal to the busy streets below.  It’s one of the most popular things to do in New York!

New Jersey

A lot of visitors to New York don’t realize that some of the most popular views of New York are actually from the neighboring state of New Jersey.  Some of the most iconic pictures of the city have been taken from across the harbor.  Visit Liberty State Park in Jersey City to see the entire New York skyline at just a glance.  Or, try Pier C Park in Hoboken for another great vantage point.  Chances are you’ll recognize these views of New York City from some of your favorite movies and T.V. shows.

Rooftop Bars

One of the best kept local secrets includes a drink and a view.  If you just can’t get enough of the New York skyline, search out one of the city’s numerous rooftop bars.  For a fraction of the price of an observatory ticket, you can enjoy some of the best views in New York while sipping on one of your favorite cocktails.  A short and simple query on the internet should reveal a rooftop bar near you.  So, after your Empire State Building trip, you can enjoy a view of the iconic building from the comfort of a barstool.
